Workplace Burnout, Stress, and Overwhelm Therapy in Vancouver

Individual therapy for people navigating burnout, chronic stress, and workplace overwhelm with phil di loreto, RCC. Fifteen years in corporate tech and HR, now in the therapy room.

Something shifted. You used to be good at this. Now you're getting through the day in pieces, dreading things that never used to bother you, and wondering if you've just... run out.

This may be for you if...

Understanding Workplace Stressors from The Inside Out

Burnout’s not a character flaw or a productivity problem. It’s what happens when the demands on a person consistently outpace what they have to give, and when the systems around them, the workplace culture, the expectations, the relationships, often make it harder to say so.

phil di loreto, RCC, works with people navigating burnout, chronic workplace stress, and overwhelm. He brings something to this work that most therapists don’t: fifteen years working inside the corporate world, specifically in tech and HR, before becoming a counsellor. He knows what it’s like from the inside and has the lived experience of the stressors of the corporate world.

What Brings People Here

Overwhelm that won't lift

The to-do list never gets shorter. You finish one thing and three more appear. Rest doesn’t feel restful.

Navigating hard conversations

With a manager, a direct report, a colleague who makes things difficult. Knowing what you want to say and being unable to say it clearly, or at all.

Advocating for yourself at work

You know what you need. Asking for it is another matter. Boundaries, raises, workload, recognition: the places where it feels easier to say nothing and build resentment.

Imposter syndrome and self-doubt

Challenging workplace relationships

The identity question underneath it all

The sense that you’re performing competence rather than actually having it. That people are going to figure out that you’ve been making it up, and that creeping feeling that you don’t deserve to be here.

Conflict that stays unresolved, team dynamics that drain you, a manager relationship that is eroding your confidence or your trust in yourself.

Who you are when the job that’s been defining you stops working, or stops being something you want to define you.

Fifteen Years on the Inside

phil spent the first part of his career in the corporate world, including significant time in tech and human resources, before training as a counsellor. It means he already knows what it feels like to sit in a performance review that isn’t going the way you hoped, to manage a team through a reorganization, to be the person in HR watching a situation unfold that no one knows how to name, and to feel like the job is asking for something you no longer know how to give.

When you work with phil, you’re not spending your session explaining what a sprint is, or why the reorganization matters, or what it costs to be the only person in the room who notices a problem. That context is already there.

phil holds a Master of Counselling from City University of Seattle and is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. He continues to work as a leadership and team coach in the tech industry, supporting people in their professional growth.

Phil draws on Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for this work.

The approach is practical and relational. Most people don’t come in needing a 10-step framework. They come in needing space to think, and someone who can help them figure out what’s actually happening.

Sessions can focus on developing the self-awareness to recognize when you’re in a pattern before it costs you something. Building the skills to have the conversations you’ve been avoiding. Clarifying what you actually want from work and from the rest of your life around it. Processing the grief or anger that can sit underneath burnout when the thing that used to feel meaningful stops feeling that way.

Sessions are 50 minutes. The first session focuses on your situation: what’s happening, what you’ve tried, and what you’re hoping to move toward. Some people come for a defined number of sessions around a specific situation; others find that what started as a workplace problem opens into something bigger, and want to keep going. phil will work with you to figure out what fits. In-person in Vancouver, and via telehealth across BC.

What we work on together

Self-Discovery through the Lens of Insights

As a Certified Insights Practitioner, phil also offers the gift of Insights Discovery as a way to help clients navigate workplace and relationship challenges.

Insights is a psychometric tool grounded in the psychology of Carl Jung. It uses a four-colour model (Fiery Red, Sunshine Yellow, Earth Green, and Cool Blue) to help people understand their behavioural preferences, communication style, and how they tend to show up in relationships at work.

For people working through burnout or workplace stress in therapy, Insights can add a concrete layer of self-understanding. It gives language to patterns that can otherwise be hard to name: why certain interactions drain you, what you bring to a team, where your blind spots tend to live, and how other people might be experiencing you in ways you cannot see from the inside.

Insights Discovery can be completed as a standalone experience or woven into the therapy work, depending on what’s most useful for you.
